Are you serious, OP? My ex-MIL always said this too. I never really responded and I don't think she ever expected one. This is, as DCUM'ers like to say, a nothingburger. Sometimes it seems like people like to find the most minor and dumb things to complain about MIL.

This. You could actually respond with this OP, to make it funnier for yourself. First thing I thought of when I saw the subject line.

If you’re ok mocking your elderly mom over something that’s important to her, sure, go ahead.

I don't think the elderly mom will experience this as mocking and it may give OP a way to experience a little gun in something she, for some reason, finds irritating. If I said this to my mom it would cause her to smile.

I think the fact that you described it as croaking is very telling of the kind of feelings your have for your mom. This is such a non issue.

Sometimes I hate DCUM.

+1. My Nan always inserts God willing. She’s seen a lot in her life and endured a lot of hardship. I’ll gladly sit there all day and let say that if it gives her some peace and keeps her connected to people she loved in her past.

Unless she's deeply religious she's likely just unconsciously adding it by habit.

She's also probably experienced losses and other things in life that even subconsciously make her much more aware that the future is not as much of a given as "young people" think it is.

Ugh my family member always says the "creeks don't rise" thing but makes a little dance like its cute or something when she says it. Drives me nuts but I'd never say a word.

It’s not just Muslims - I am a Christian Arab and we all say it too- it’s just ingrained in you from a very young age, almost like superstition to say, “see you tomorrow, inshallah.”
