Unsure of this but I trust you all so can you give us some places?
200 miles is a bit silly given NYC is just over 200 miles from DC. Perhaps limit that a bit.
NP. Perhaps be constructive instead of critical.
OP, Bowie is nice. I grew up there and didn’t know how good I had it. Columbia, MD is also really nice.
I’d also look at Burke and Ashburn in VA.
Are Burke and Ashburn diverse? I’m white and live in Virginia, and I don’t think I’d recommend Virginia. And definitely not further out than Arlington or Alexandria.

Youngkin will destroy VA schools and your kids deserve better.
Columbia MD. Excellent schools best gift you can give your kids is a great education.
Only an issue if you want your boy to compete against girls in sports. Avoid PG county, horrible schools. Fairfax county is a safe bet. The Bristow/Gainesville area is good if you want to save some money.
But they’re black. So PG county would work to be closer to their people. Fairfax is too white.
What's with all the racist posts these days. FYI there's over 100,000 African Americans in Fairfax County.

. I feel really lucky because we both WAH and his elementary school next year is less than 0.5 mile away and his middle school will be 1.0 mile away. We can walk or bike to both on sidewalks. Easily visit DC, Annapolis, and Baltimore. PG County has great parks and a lot of green areas.

Do you have a thing for soulless nondescript suburbs?

We lived in Arlington VA before this and enjoyed it but knew there wasn’t enough diversity to comfortably raise our future children.
DP; I was going to suggest Bowie, which is a wonderful community, but also look at Columbia!

Columbia, Md. Came out as safest city in America. Better schools than moco
First sentence is true.
Second was is not.
