HE needs to read what current students post on UNIGO and Niche. That should trigger some preference.

Your child needs to figure out if he wants urban or isolated (both can be great). Does he like outdoor activities/nature or culture (museums, theater, restaurants). Does he want a campus where most people attend weekend events or are tempted away by the city? Does he seek to network during the school years it mostly in the summer)?

If he gives this aspect thought, I can’t see how he can like both environments equally.

(I also think Colgate is likely more frat/lacrosse bro vibe and perhaps less liberal, so there is that also)

But for BC, it's going to be hyper competitive regardless. It's not like there's an easy time to get into that school.

Admission is possible with 4.0/1450 if he can apply ED. It's simply reach territory - outcome is uncertain.

These schools are totally different. Your kid should have a clear preference. Despite naviance stats being the same, BC is probably going to be harder to get into. What are your kid's stats? We'll chance you.

I agree. To the poster who said not to apply ED if the kid isn't sure: without using ED at one or both schools, the student may very well be shut out at *both*.

I am adding to the posters who said - provided they are truly equal in your kid’s mind - go with whatever one is a more likely admit. Neither school is a shoo in, so if the kid likes them equally, I would go on strategy

This is not true. BC alum here and my male friends were not fratty at all. They also didn't behave like the all boys students in DC metro area do.

Another BC grad here. Let's be honest: many Catholic schools that don't have frats have clubs that almost operate like them and the partying is just as wild.

I laughed at the comment about people wearing their HS stuff. I remember the most insufferable guys from Catholic Memorial that had the attitude you'd expect from someone who went to a Swiss boarding school instead of a boys school in West Roxbury.
