Subject: I thought Maret had a new Head
There were zero prerequisites for Maret to build here. If DC wasn’t such a nightmare to deal with I bet the episcopal church would have approached them. The fact is the church probably wanted to get as much as they could for the 99 year lease and Maret has millions at its immediate disposal.

Well I’m a neighbor and my kids go to DCPS and I would like the city, other kids, leagues to be able to access the field. My understanding is that was one of prerequisites for Maret to be able to get approval from the city to build such a huge complex. Think it’s important not to paint the neighborhood with a broad brush. Ideally, DC would have purchased the land and made it accessible to schools, parks and rec, etc. we have such a shortage in the city. That feels like the biggest miss here:

I mean, yeah? That’s how it works in rich neighborhoods- the wealthy move in and lock the gates behind them.
They’re probably ok with one small private school using the space because it keeps out the—shudder—public school riffraff.
