Declaring an emergency gives the Mayor authority to spend and contract for programs and assistance that aren’t in the approved city budget. It’s something Mayors and Governors do.

It makes sense that newcomers head to communities where they have friends or family. It makes sense they head to communities where others speak their language.
The government has been doing this forever. It wasn’t too long ago the media covered those flights. Rs are now doing it as a political stunt to make a point. Shrug. Same difference.
You can see how many people enter the US every week/month. The government posts that info (including demographics). The numbers are crazy high.
The DC mayor begged for help before the NY mayor. They realize they can’t shoulder the burden of a constant influx of people. Nobody can. 5,500 migrant students have been enrolled in nyc schools in recent months. Think about that impact alone (ignore the obvious housing crisis).
I’m a bleeding heart liberal, but even I can see we have a problem. The numbers are too high. This is largely economic migration. And the end result is some Ds will reach their tipping point with this issue and vote R because of that. I don’t want another R in the White House. I certainly don’t want Trump again. I think the Ds need to adjust their immigration plan if they want to win. Even Latinos who are here are annoyed (per recent polls), and the Ds seem ignorant to that data.

because a bunch were dumped on them by another state who had no authority to do that. Those governors lied to the people and were basically human traffickers for a political stunt.
Someone doesn't understand. a region of the country declared itself a sanctuary. Another part of the country did not. A exchange of migrants took place. Sanctuary city politician whines that he could not up hold his promises. Keep sending migrants till these clowns want to fix the problem.

So, what about the states that get them at the first place? Are they supposed to just keep them?
Texas is swimming in federal payroll, contracts, facilities, etc. to process immigrants. It’s a big part of the Texas economy.

But weren’t those unlawful immigrants dumped in those other states by a federal govt that isn’t enforcing security at the border because doing so is unpopular with the political class in those states now doing the complaining?
So you think small, under resourced towns in rural Texas should absorb the massive costs of dealing with a huge influx of people who shouldn’t be here, but draw the line when a few hundred show up in NYC?
Seriously- how do you defend that?
I'm not defending anything, but last I checked TX, FL, and NY are part of the US, and the federal government has the authority to deal with illegal immigrants, not a governor who is looking to score political points and looking to run for POTUS in two years.
Also, Desantis had ZERO authority to ship illegal immigrants from TX, a state he has ZERO jurisdiction in. So again, he's basically a human trafficker. We should put him in prison.
Yes, the federal government has the authority.... but when the federal government shirks that authority, the states most heavily impacted need to take action.
And, are you equally as outraged about the mayor of El Paso (D) busing migrants to NYC?
DeSantis should be awarded a medal for what he did. The Democrats are FINALLY talking about the crisis at the border. That is a miracle.
No it’s not up to the states. Sorry not how it works. When Texas leaves can you join them?
Answer the question: Are you equally as outraged about the mayor of El Paso (D) busing migrants to NYC?
I do not care. It’s all a stupid political stunts. This is just a made up issue by the right wing media because they do not want to talk about Trump. Answer my question will you migrate to Texas when Texas leave the US?
