The recividism rate for youths in community detention is a lotttt lower than youth held in confinement facilities. Prisons & jails just make things worse.
The should have at least been held the maximum 72 hours before arraignment. This is a very serious offense and thankfully Maryland is not DC. There’s no Youth Offenders Act that will give them a slap on the wrist.
Agree. They are still children, and they need an immediate consequence. They should be put on a rocket docket and tried ASAP.

I personally feel that being grounded is a little light for carjacking. But the people making criminal justice policies care much more about the offenders than their victims, so that’s just how it’s going to be. Watch your back, the government does not give a crap about crime victims.

The murder rate in red states is way higher than any liberal state. Also, let’s talk suicide by gun in red states.
You need to be defending yourself from death or serious injury. The problem with states that don’t have stand your ground laws is it increases the chances that someone legitimately defending themselves will be charged with murder because an overzealous prosecutor can play Monday morning quarterback and argue you could have fled. In many self defense shootings the victim has 1-2 seconds to react. Placing the burden of retreating on the victim will increase the likelihood that victims of crime will attempt to run away when it’s not in their best interest and could lead to them getting killed. The burden should not be on the victim to run away, the burden should be on the violent thug to not threaten someone’s life. That’s the point of stand your ground.
+1. Plus it’s just a deterrent. Criminals need to know that if you play stupid games, you win stupid prizes, and they should be scared for their life every time they try to commit a criminal act.

It sounds like the parents weren't doing a good job controlling their 14 year olds in the first place. Why will they do better this time?
Why is the judicial system okay with people pointing guns at others? Have you ever had a gun pointed at you during a crime?
Exactly. 11 AM on a Tuesday and they were committing felony assault and car jacking with a gun instead of being in school.
Clearly safer for the rest of the kids in school that these fine young scholars were not present.
At least they were civic minded enough to take public transit to Rockville. Making good use of DCs Kids Ride Free program. They should be commended.
