It didn't happen to my mother. She smoked cigarettes and ate very little until the day she died.

That’s pathetic and far worse than just letting go.

Working out harder is not an option. All that leads to injury. I feel secret is to move more around the house/outdoors.

I read a few papers on blue zones. People eat carbs (rice and beans), fruits, veggies, and small servings of meat and are mainly active throughout the day. They are not running miles, cross fitting, dead lifting etc...

Some of my friends don't have this issue and have actually become thinner and often frail-looking in menopause. But the rest of us are eating like birds and still gaining weight. It's just lovely 🙁🤪

Same!

I'm 48 and I eat little plus do intermittent fasting.

While trying on clothes in front of the really unflattering mirrors at Nordstrom I was kind of like WTF. My boobs are bigger, my middle is rounding and even though I am a size 8/M things just don’t fit or flatter the same.

I am determined to go carb free and maybe ramp up the cardio (I currently go to range theory 4 days a week). Help. What else can I do? Getting old stinks.

I've been reading the book by stacy sims "next level". She goes in depth about this same problem that every women has.

I mentioned it upthread and am reading it too. It’s written for someone who is already very physically active, but I think the ideas make sense and can be applied more broadly. I exercise 4-5 times a week but am not an endurance athlete, so some of the sample workout plans wouldn’t work for me, but I think they are adaptable.

Count calories. I mean actually write down what you eat and track it. A simple spreadsheet will do. You are likely eating more calories than you think you are. I also do weight training and light cardio 5 days/week. After 3 weeks I am seeing a change to my shape and tracking the calories is motivating. It’s not an overnight change but losing 1.5 pounds per week is very doable. It just takes discipline.

While my grandmothers & my mother were not overweight, their bodies had changed considerably from when they were in their 30s and 40s, as is the norm for women, and men. My mother, unlike my grandmothers, is extremely active and works out daily. She is an athlete and yet aging has not skipped her by. She exercises 2-3 hours per day to maintain her weight.

my mother has a terrible relationship with food and judges everyone by the way they look. She eats egg whites for breakfast, a bowl of spinach for lunch and a piece of salmon for dinner and thinks she is fat so I definitely don't have someone to look up to in this department. But she thinks her size 0 is wonderful and her diet is the healthiest of anyone she knows.
