This was my sister’s MIL and my SIL’s grandmother so we definitely know they didn’t have fertility treatments since none existed at the time.

Also more likely to have twin are women who undergo IVF. Twins are statistically rare naturally. It's not a great stretch of the imagination to imagine a 48 year old woman, expecting twins, might have had some help. And good for her if she did, there's nothing wrong with it. But you can't blame people for coming to a logical conclusion.

I know someone who was told she could not get pregnant, only to find herself pregnant with identical twins at the age of 45. No IVF or anything. It happens.

agree. Whenever I see someone over the age 38 with multiples, I assume its IVF.

Really? I assume the opposite. Older women produce eggs like it's a 4th of July fireworks finale.

But not a lot of viable ones. Quantity goes up, perhaps, but quality goes way down.
