Old Town, Alexandria is still open. I used to work in OT and we often bought cakes from La Madeleine for staff birthday celebrations.

Glad OP and her DH enjoyed the cake!

Four of us had a slice and I still have 3/4 of the cake. I’ll slice it, put the slices into individual baggies and freeze. We’ll have cake for the next 2-3 months! Thanks again everyone. I’ve pulled out all the recommendations in this thread and have entered them in the notes on my phone.

Came back for the post-eating update. Glad you guys liked it! Best birthday wishes to your DH!!

Make a boxed white cake mix, get a can of cream of coconut, some cool whip or even better coco whip, sweetened condensed m milk, and diced or shredded coconut. Bake the cake, cool slightly, stab a bunch of holes in it with a chopstick or knife or whatever, stir together condensed milk and cream of coconut, pour over cake. Refrigerate overnight, cover with cool whip (or homemade whipped cream if you want it even better) and sprinkle with shredded coconut. Hands down best coconut cake around. You can add 1/2 tsp of coconut flavor to cake mix if you want but not really necessary.

La Madeleine actually has the best one I’ve ever had. It’s a joke in our family bc a family member plates it every Easter and pretends she made it bc it’s better than any recipe we’ve ever had

Parkway Deli just over looking me in Silver Spring has a very nice coconut cake. You can buy it by the cake or the slice!

They don’t list a coconut cake among the offerings on their website.

They must have stopped, sorry!

I hope that the Le Madeleine cake was delicious, OP!

I'll chime in for the benefit of others that yesterday I happened to see a coconut cake in the dessert case when I was at Mah-Ze-Dar Bakery at the Wharf in DC. It looked good and the cheesecake I ordered instead was delicious. It's another option for DCUMers in search of coconut cakes in the area!
