Do focus schools have an aide or other adult in the class with the kids?

No usually

Yes. Dedicated Para the whole day

That may be true in some classrooms, but not all.

Why would they put that in writing? The answer for max class size is up to the fire inspector. The schools couldn't care less how many students are crammed into a classroom. The more, the higher their salaries.

No fire inspector has ever trumped MCPS. They just re-write the max number for the room.

My high schooler claims classes of 40– none less than 36. Rooms crammed with desks.

The largest class any of my kids ever had was a FIRST grade class of 31, years ago, at overcrowded Bethesda Elementary. That year was a complete sh1tshow.

Now in middle and high school, the math classes are about 30, and the rest a little smaller.

Isn’t CES supposed to be at the cap, 28?

Different poster, my kid’s fifth grade CES has 29.

Not by default. It would depend on para staffing, and if there were students in the class needing extra support.

Thanks. I assume there aren't extra paras this year either, with the school staff shortages everywhere.

There is no cap. Unenforceable "guidelines."

But the PP is correct that CES classes are typically 28 students.

I'm not sure but my daughter was adamant that there are 26 people in her class...maybe they are awaiting responses on wait list offers. I'll update if it changes.

Yep, 31-35 was standard back then even in ES.
