Hmm. When people speak of culture in Detroit, they are talking about a whole host of landmarks, entertainment venues and galleries. Motown is one slice of history.

Agreed. Like what culture are they referring to in DC, Philly, NY, etc. etc.? Illegal dirt bike riding and shootings? Omg, like anyone is missing out on so much 'culture' relative to the COL and tax price tags. The only culture people miss out from not living in urban cities is the decline of civilization.

I love when people say oooh the arts, oooh the museums. How often does the average college-educated resident go to a museum? Maybe once every few years.

I live in Florida and we actually have a ton of galleries and museums here, in my part of the state. Which we go to a lot! Some of them are "world class" even - though personally I prefer smaller galleries and museums, myself.

Those are usually in blue areas, though.

Nobody goes there anymore. It's too crowded.

Nice strawman. Nobody is cross-shopping DMV vs. homes in "rural Oklahoma". That said, plenty of art and museums in major cities and college towns in every state, including energy rich Oklahoma City and Oklahoma State University (Stillwater) and

I know a elderly couple who religiously voted Democrat until they moved to FL. They got really into something that filled their free time with. The state was going to make it illegal until Rubio came in to save the day. They then loved Rubio for this one and only reason. Finally they moved away and seemed to come back to earth. I took it as a more selfish take on things. Being elderly, they only cared about their own interest which the Republican's play quite well.
I also know another family who moved there, they always leaned right so no shocker there. Interestingly enough though, they say DeSantis needs to go.

DC fans can't judge about strip malls and chain restaurants. If you aren't going to a Michelin star restaurant in DC then you're at Chipotle or McD's.
