Sounds like a gang problem. Do we still have a gang task force in DC?
After many years ATV culture is finally getting recognized as local DC cultural heritage, so please don't simply conflate it with common criminal behavior.
Can't tell if serious?

What is going on in DC? Is it even safe to walk around there these days? The city seems to be descending into anarchy.
Seriously? My house value hasn't decreased so normal people understand that it isn't anarchy.
Translated: “as long as it’s just black people killing other black people and it doesn’t affect the value of my condo in Shaw, IDGAF…. oh, and black lives matter! Defund the police!”
Isn't defunding the police what is causing these problems?
MPD hasn’t been defunded.
It’s been demoralized. They are following the Baltimore model
I mean if the cops can’t handle some criticism then what are they worth? This is the dumbest take.
It's more than criticism. While not DC, FCPD is so short-staffed, they have mandatory overtime, an additional half-hour on top of a 12 hour shift. And it doesn't count toward retirement. Do you work 12.5 days?

If thugs on ATVs terrorizing communities constitutes "culture," then DC's future is bleak.

Yes, homicides are up and the unfortunate truth is that many of the homicide victims are street-involved young men and are due to neighborhood beef. It’s horrific of course but if that doesn’t describe you, you are unlikely to be a victim of a violent crime. The district needs to be much more to prevent these beefs and violent crime- cracking down on illegal weapons, more violence interrupters, and stricter punishment. And we need to do more to prevent the circumstances that lead to becoming street involved in the first place- poverty, lack of educational opportunities, etc. It’s all connected.
But lady from the suburbs who is wondering if it’s unsafe to walk around- it’s not.
Crime in DC is totally out of control. Youre essentially saying “but fortunately our kind won’t be affected.” That’s pretty racist if you think about it. Everyone has the right to live in a safe city, not just ladies from the suburbs as you say.
Dp. I don’t think the PP was saying at all that people don’t deserve to live in a safe place. Pointing out that DC is a different experience for suburbanites who come in for dinner once in a while, than it is for people engaged in gun and drug crime, is not racist. That’s just fact. Engaging in drugs and crime is dangerous, no matter what race you are.
For what it’s worth, I was half a block away from one of these shootings, putting my kid to bed. In over ten years, these were the first gun shots I’ve actually heard and knew they were gunshots. Our house was literally rattling. I still do not believe I am going to be the target of a violent crime, precisely because these shootings are not targeting me.
And given how much practice they have, the shooters almost never miss!
Ha! I always wondered why the US army doesn't send out more recruiters to DC streets. Those are battled-hardened criminals with some real world experience!
