You tip the shampoo person $50?????????

Yes, they are the lowest paid person there and I’m sure it’s a boost for them. Why not make their day a little better? I only go 4 times a year.

They need to just be paid. There is nothing they can do in the 5 minutes they’re washing our hair that’s worth any tip. I’m so sick of businesses relying on their customers to pay their staff.

Salon owners seem like cheap sweatshop kings if they’re charging $200 for a cut and taking so much the stylists also need a $40 tip for an hour’s work. I’ve come to hate the whole industry.

I pay $160 for a cut and $240 for highlights in DC, plus 20% tip. It's pricey but I only go about 3 times per year, and they're really good so I don't worry about getting a bad service. It's worth it to me.

Why do you begrudge her success?

This has to be fake.

Or written by a shampooer!

I tip 20% on all personal services: hair, mani/pedi, etc. Same with table service at restaurants. I tip less for take out and not at all for to go coffee.

It seems a little pricey- but highlights last many months. More important would be the monthly or so price for root touch up and toner.

Not sure how you get your color to look good with Clairol. My hair looks absolutely horrendous when I continually use boxed hair color. Ends up turning my hair orangey no matter the color I use-- Ash, etc. My hair texture also gets negatively affected with boxed hair color. If you can maintain great looking hair with Clairol on a monthly basis, the more power to ya!

The stylist I used to go to is an owner and her 3 kids go to private school and they all drive high end cars. She does very very well.

For a cut and partial highlights I am charged $250. I give a $50 dollar tip on top of that. I only go every 3-4 months though.

So expensive. If I go this route, it will be 100% because I think it will help me get a raise/new job.

My stylist in Clarendon charges $120 including tip. But honestly her haircuts are not consistent or even on each side depending on if she is sober. It's a crap shoot.

Zero. I do not pay for something I can do at home. I prefer to save my money.
