They are better and more diverse
The diverse thing is tired. Is school no longer about academics?
as a biracial family, I wouldn't want my kids in a non diverse school
As someone who grew up lower income, and then became UMC and lived in a UMC expensive town, I also wouldn't want my kids in a school that was full of primarily wealthy kids. That has its own challenges.
So, yes, school is more than just about academics.
And I say this as a parent of a magnet DC who gets straight As, so academics is very important to us, too.
MCPS has its share of issues, but IMO, the programming and diversity are one of the few things I like about MCPS.

Which part of the word "better" you did not understand?
It's OK, we know racists don't like diversity
It’s okay, we know you like to inject racism into everything.
I like to call out racists who don't like diversity

We are relocating this month to the area and will get several months of corporate housing through my partner's job (and eventually will officially relocate to a permanent home.) Job is downtown DC and we have options in BCC, Whitman, and possibly Jackson Reed. All get top scores on Great Schools. We have a rising 9th-grade boy who is coming from a large public school in Florida. Are each of these schools similar in culture & personality? They seem to be similar in size. Leaning towards BCC because of the convenience of the apartment (and extra bathroom) but open. Ideally, we would have done school visits with actual kids in the building. If your kid attends any of the schools mentioned will you tell me something you like about the school? I don't need to hear the bad- all schools are not perfect but we would like to get the lay of the land.
BCC is a great place to lean. We are in the apartments right near the school and it is great set up for the kids. They are able to come home for lunch or open periods (BCC has an open campus).
Hi PP - good to hear your feedback that BCC is a good place to learn. Are academics strong? I hear Pyle/Whitman are stronger academically than Westland/ BCC. Any feedback would be appreciated.

BCC academics are strong (or, more precisely, there is ample opportunity to pursue strong academics at BCC). My kid recently finished and did the IB diploma program which gave them a chance to do an extended writing project and also do in depth history etc. About 90 kids a years are doing full IB and then lots do, say, IB English but AP classes for the sciences.

2 BCC
3 Wilson/Jackson Reed
This is the ranking you are looking for. Whitman scores the best. It's very white. Most consistent with teachers. Wilson is struggling because of DC resources and crazy overcrowding. If your kids is smart, easy going and can stay of of trouble, he'll do great and will love Wilson as much as the others.
Signed parent who left Deal/Wilson and moved to BCC with 3 kids, eventually switching 1 to private.
All turned out ok!
