My son definitely had a Star Wars-themed backpack from PB in 3rd grade. Maybe 4th, too. I figured if he wanted it, then he would use it, and he did. He didn't seem interested in what other kids would think and I wasn't about to encourage him to, but I'm pretty sure 3rd was still the age when it was common.

It's fine. Though I'll mention the shoulder strap on DD's PB backpack with wheels completely tore off after two years of use (2nd and 3rd grade). I inspected it and the quality isn't as good as a North Face backpack we have. We'll be going with a better quality brand for 4th grade.

I know 2 6th graders with Star Wars backpacks. Not pb, but still obvious Star Wars decorations. Your kid is fine.

DS is going into 3rd grade with the same Marvel PB backpack he's had since pre-K4. It held up very well after his Paw Patrol Target backpack lasted only a year in pre-K3. I don't care if my kid wears character clothes or accessories; in fact, it's helped him find random friends at playgrounds. To each their own, though. I get not wanting to buy a new character item every time the kid changes interests: luckily Marvel was a solid interest lasting years in elementary school. I do think that in the future, if the backpack breaks, we'll probably go neutral as I'd be hoping the next purchase lasts into middle school.

I really like the quality of the potter barn backpack, my daughter has had her backpack for two years and its in great shape

The brand doesn't even matter, OP. If you can afford it, get the kid the backpack he wants. Don't shame him into thinking star wars is baby-ish. You sound awful.

Absolutely not too babyish my brother is exactly the same age and I could probably see him getting something like that.

For third it’s fine. If you don’t Eisner to buy a new one next year, then I wouldn’t buy it.
