I was pretty outraged by ticket prices. We paid but I regretted it. It was mildly interesting but nothing like as interesting as eg the Hearst place.

I don't think you people know the difference between mansion and McMansion. Also why would you go there if you didn't want to see a big, opulent house?

It's not a mcmansion, its united States excellence that destroys European architecture, sorry socialists

You knew what OP was talking about. Playing dumb is not an appealing look.

Been to the hotel several times, never heard of the estate. But thanks for being helpful!

Come on, this is impossible.

Oh sorry, I thought you meant the hotel in Asheville! There is a Biltmore hotel on the grounds of the estate, and I thought you were saying you had stayed without knowing about the house.

Sure it is overrated like Versailles is over rated. Marie Antoinette’s bed was so tiny!!

Years ago it was worth a visit. There were in-person guides who were very knowledgeable, groups were small, went through lots of rooms and were able to ask questions.

Now it is an audio device you have to hold up to your ear like a phone, there are only a few interesting rooms upstairs you get to walk through and then they send you down to the basement, the info is minimal and dumbed-down, and there are so many hordes of people it is an elbow-bumping experience the whole way.

The gardens are OK but nothing jaw dropping.

And to do this for more than $90 per person?!! Never again.

Spend your time elsewhere in Asheville. The NC Arboretum and gardens is free.

Totally disagree. If you are in Asheville, you should visit the Biltmore. FYI audio tours are fairly standard now - the mansions in Newport do the same.

Autumn foliage is the best time actually!

We went on spring break and my kids loved it.

Not too many want to spend their money looking at Soviet bloc housing. Maybe that's where you belong, though. [/quote

There are many buildings in America that are much more worthy of your time and money. There is good architecture out there. There are more historically significant homes to see. Biltmore is a tourist trap and a waste of time.

I went last year and had a very good time. We went early in the morning and stayed the entire day, so felt the price was worth it. The grounds are the best part. The house itself isn't that impressive, but the grounds are worth it.

Same, so insanely expensive.
