But is that a requirement? From what I can tell no first lady ever has ever done anything other than "bring awareness" at best. And if they ever did "accomplish" anything, I'm sure that accomplishment is being evaluated in hindsight, and not with less than two years under their belt.
I give Laura Bush credit for the National Book Festival, and Hillary Clinton credit for getting things started with universal health care.
I give Lady Bird Johnson much credit for the tulips — and other “beautification “ projects. Betty Ford and Jackie Kennedy both brought significant attention to their issues and projects as well. Those are just the ones that stand out to me — because of my own interests.
I don’t think having a project should be a requirement, but it seems like a shame to have an opportunity like that and not enjoy putting a focus on something both of interest and potentially beneficial.
