I agree with this-6 as an average per person as long as they are xlarge or jumbo. Maybe double if they're smaller.
Marylander who loves crabs and grew up eating them. I generally eat 4-7.
I don't think I've ever seen one person eat 12 at one time but we never get the small ones, so if that's small it makes more sense.
My teen will eat 3-4 and she likes them.
