Didn’t read the book. The movie seemed like a plot told a thousand times before. Hard to believe any of it beyond the lack of mercy in an insular community. The movie would have been infinitesimally better if the drawings were done by a better artist. It would have been less annoying, but wouldn’t have saved the story.

The Art of Racing in the Rain was that book for me. I called it contrived and the book club leader was infuriated.

Why do people hate the book so much? Was it too slow moving?

Thank you for the courage of your convictions - it is admirable amidst the pile on.

Agree. I hated that book.

that book was HORRIBLE. I forced myself to finish it since everyone said how great it was so I assumed I just hadn't got to the good part yet ... nope all bad. I don't understand how it's so well loved.

Agree!! I truly don't understand why it's so beloved.

The New York Times picks up the thread with an above the fold article.

Questions About An Unsolved Murder Linger Over ‘Where the Crawdads Sing’

This story keeps getting weirder. Naturalist wanted for questioning in murder pens best selling novel where naturalist gets away with murder?

There's television footage of the murder but the shooter's face is blurred? They could never identify the slain man? WTH?
