I was at Seneca rocks a few weeks ago and there was an entire school bus of children at the visitor center. Probably half were black. No one even looked twice. I’m not sure why people are dead set on assuming West Virginians are all racist trump supporters.

+1, WV is like VA, largely a southern state with the exception of a few suburban pockets. Panhandle WV is different from Charleston, just like Alexandria VA is different from Lynchburg.

You guys act like WV is one entirely homogeneous place. As if every town or country in VA is the exact same or even every part of DC were the same when it comes to politics, attitude, safety, economic health, etc.

It is NOT. Any thread about moving to "West Virginia" is useless unless it is about a specific town or local area that you can actually determine if it is the right fit for you. Otherwise it is just garbage useless posts like entire thread, aside from 2 or 3 posts.

I loved our visits to WV over the past few years as WV reminds me of my rural hometown, but I did sense that I would not have been welcome if I weren't white. Specifically, there was a "Blue Lives Matter" sign hanging in the window of the police station.

I grew up there too and was back visiting family during both of these occurrence. As far as the man using the N word constantly, he was a friend of my father's and I think it made him comfortable to go full mask off around me because of that. I don't even want to go back and visit my family there any longer.

This is actually one of the things I love about WV, people don’t make everything about politics like they do in the dmv. It’s so nice. People like the first poster who are obsessed with other people’s politics are exhausting.

Yeah, they totally don't make it all about politics. I was in Southern WV at the start of COVID and wearing a mask inside a souvenir shop. He looked at me and said, "Damn Democrats" then went to the employee working the register that he knew (it was slow and no one was in line) and started talking about crap he saw on Fox News. Sure there are some people that aren't going to talk about politics all the time but it's sadly way too common even there.

Politics kinda matter. Haven’t you been paying attention to what’s happening? There are real world consequences coming out of all of that. Even to WV.
