That was my thought. They probably think black tie is the fanciest/nighttime, and white tie is more casual or is the daytime version of black tie because white *seems* more like a daytime and summer-y color. Sort of like, you wear white during the summer only (no white after Labor Day!) so white tie sounds like summery formal wear.

I wonder if they think white tie is the opposite of black tie.
