WUT? This is a new one on me. Where did the documents tab go? Is this just me or do other parents have this issue too?

They updated to the coming school year yesterday. I logged in and got that pop up message about math SOL scores and the documents tab was there, with all of the documents from last year – but I just logged back in now and the documents tab is gone. I’m guessing they’re configuring classes or something like that?

+1

Last week, I was able to download my kid's SOL pdfs. But then when I went in today it was gone. And I saw that my kid was finally moved to the correct school. They are making changes this week.

Thanks, this is a relief! Not just me and probably will be repaired soon -- thank you so much!

I figure if they’re old enough to spend the year prepping for the SOLs, they’re old enough to know the results.

Spend the year prepping? No. The SOLs are a test assessing a students knowledge of the VA SOLs which are the state standards. So if you mean spending the year learning the grade level standards…. Then yes.

NP. To me that is preparing for the SOL. The teachers drill in into their heads because they will be tested on it. Do you think the teachers would spend so much time teaching about captions if it wasn't on the test? (I do hope the answer is no)

Not sure what grade your child is in, but nonfiction text features are in the standards. There are maybe 1-2 max questions possibly about captions on a reading SOL so not sure why it would be drilled but yes it is important for your child to know what a caption is and it’s purpose in nonfiction text. If your child’s teacher is repeating the skill it means student(s) are not mastering it the first go around. There are lots of skills the SOLs cover that are going out of use that teachers must still cover- for example, dictionary skills (guide words, reading a dictionary entry, etc). Most people don’t use actual dictionaries any more now that we have access to online sources but we still have to teach and practice this skill because it’s in the standards. Please give your input to VDOE to update the ones you feel are unecessary!

With a few weeks of focused “review” at the end of the year.

For 6th grade what is the best way to prep for next year? 5th was a disaster.

Thanks for the update. I found my kid's. Advanced pass on math...near fail on reading. I'm pleased. (has learning disorders)

VDOE will release score reports by school and district near end of August for comparison. I’m sure there will be a school board meeting presentation around then too.

How do we find out how all the scores were? I would like to compare if my kid doing okay compared to other kids.
