Nice try, but we know it’s the foolish Maryland booster complaining about the lack of “soul” as if that’s going to compensate for economic stagnation, declining schools, and middle-income flight.

I agree, Arlington is nice.
The animosity seems to be driven by the angry, insecure Loudoun/Fairfax booster, who trashes MoCo on every thread where he has a remote chance of slipping it in. Maybe also the VA right-winger for whom taxes are the one and only criteria for choosing where to live. Then of course MoCo retaliates, because we’re sick of this pair.

I'm sorry you were raised in a racist household, that sure is tough to get out of your head, try and do better with your kids. Maryland has real people with character, VA is cookiecutter and if you want to live where everyone is like you and you feel extra safe please stay in VA. That VA sprawl seems like hell to some of us, where it feels like a secure blanket to others.
+100. Shoddy new construction, cookie-cutter developments, long commutes on the highway to anything interesting—Loudoun booster can keep it.

I don't understand why people get so weird about the NOVA vs. MD stuff. There are objectively nice areas (and less nice areas) in both. (And in DC for that matter!). I grew up in MOCO and currently live in Arlington. I'd happily live in either area but Arlington just works for us right now.

Because racism. When I moved to Nova in the 80s, coworkers would make remarks that always seemed to imply Md was where black people lived even though many of my coworkers commuted from there.

Fairfax GDP growth 207-2020 = 12%
Fairfax GDP 34% larger than MoCo.
