I agree that it’s really weird, I just don’t think it’s worth spending money on now. Are we going to remove all the confederate monuments from all the battlefields and use up NPS’s tiny budget to do it?
In 1963, when MLK was planning the March on Washington, he got a message from president JFK: "We support what you're doing, but now is not the right time."
It's never the perfect time.

It's absolutely a property value concern (buyers will not choose to buy on Confederate Ln if they can go elsewhere) and a concern about being presumed racist because of what your street name is.
When we first moved down here, we had an apartment on Jefferson Davis highway and hating having to give our address
I grew up overseas and came to DC for a wedding in 1990 (i would have never guessed i would have moved to the US and DC ten years later). my friends lived in Arlington and picked me up at National Airport. we drove around and i noticed these major roads, Jefferson Davis Highway, Lee Highway and remember being very puzzled. i remember thinking that I thoght these guys were on the wrond side, wheren't they? I just could not believe they had major roads dedicated to them. you dont really see Mussolini boulevard in Milan after all. I still remember by jaw dropping![]()
Thank you for this. I guess you all would be okay with Hitler Highway. Most of the posters here just don't get it. Racists.
Yes this stuff has to go no matter the cost and people who don't get it should go too.

Lots of quotes in the article from those wanting the change, but a conspicuous absence of voices from the other side. I'm not sure how I would feel about those names if they were my street, but I do know that changing a home address is a major league PITA.

You and the PP are idiots. Cheers.
Why are you so invested in naming streets after traitors to the United States?
I DGAF. But if you think people will confuse your sentiments with a street name you are a fool. If you drive a Bronco, are you a horse?

What do you mean "you people?" Do you mean patriotic Americans who no longer wish to honor traitors to the United States?
Anonymous wrote:While I’m in favor of renaming streets that have names with clear references to the Confederacy, I’m laughing at the arguments made by some that they can’t invite Black friends over to their house, or they’re embarrassed to give out their address…
…Umm, no one forced these people to buy a house on Confederate Court or rent an apartment on Plantation Parkway or whatever.
