People on this forum tend to be mean.
Assuming that this is a weighted average, for a kid taking regular classes at a regular high school: I think the real divide is between super duper stars, kids who tried but sometimes crashed and burned, and kids who really didn't try.
A 3.5 means that the student was trying, turning things and learning. There might be 50 schools that turn up their noses at the student, 150 that may be hard to get into, and about 1,500 that would love to hear from the student.
