Seriously people LIKE bringing gifts?!?? No gifts all the way. Too much mental load to shop, wrap and prep everything in advance. I have enough stuff to do and I don't need to get your kid a toy that they may or may not like

I am asking this sincerely. Did you have birthday parties? Were you parents "no gifts"? Could it kill you to let the kids have some joy? Learning how to receive a gift and give a gift is an important part of life skills! Have fewer birthday parties ( maybe milestone) but don't cut out presents.

I love giving gifts so for me a no gift party is sad. You could do "bring your favorite books" if you don't want toys but, it is very sweet when your child's friends pick out the presents.

The last no gift party I went to, I had my son make a card for his friend. Then a parent showed up with a gift AND insisted that it be opened by the birthday boy then and there, who of course just loved his new lego set, and the other parents felt like cheapos who should have brought gifts anyway. I don't care if anyone brings a gift to my child's party or not, but I won't mention anything about gifts on the invitation because saying "no gifts" or "use my registry" just creates social awkwardness all around.

Agree. Mine always make a card and put a lot of effort into it.

Gifts are just another hassle for the parent and your kid has enough stuff already and is probably getting plenty of birthday gifts from family

Gifts. I'm not comfortable showing up empty-handed, and I believe children should get gifts on their birthdays.
