Like any MCPS ES they're all about the same. They use the same curriculum, and teachers are hired by the same people even. The bulk average is more a reflection of an area's SES. This is not a strong indicator of how your student will do. That is more a function of parental income and education.

OP as another data point you could look at the Maryland School Report card results. Those results have a teacher survey score for each school, under the "School Quality and Success" heading.

Very happy here too, and love the community and most of the teachers. Though I think principal seems done and ready to retire. New VP is excellent.

They did with the last principal. The current principal is chasing staff away. He is nice, but not qualified to run a school that is such a socio economic mixing pot like Garrett Park.

How much choice do new teaches get? I assume assignments are largely based on seniority.

OP, the best school is the one you will join. That's why we hired you! Make us proud!

The thing that makes the difference has to do with home life and parental education level. Your kid will do the same at any of these schools.p

Did older principle leave? She was horrible in encouraging special needs students to leave school to boost score.

Yes, the new Prinipal started in the 2020-2021 school year. He is good.

It also seems that there is a lot of turnover in principals at elementary schools. My understanding is that administrators are supposed to progress. So, if an elementary principal does well, he’ll move up to a middle school administrative position or a role at the central office. Similarly, a successful middle school principal gets promoted to a high school or central office position, although the turnover rate may slow at the higher levels. The elementary schools my kids went to seemed to have a principal turnover rate of about 2 years, although I don’t know if that’s typical or was just particularly bad luck that might be the exception rather than the rule.

Not my ES. The principal at Stone Mill has been there forever.

Stone Mill principal - 21 years so far.
