There is a reason they put the magnet there (and Blair). Drive around university and piney branch then go back into the neighborhoods around there like Quebec terrace. Those are the kids your kids will be going to school with. Do you really want an environment where you hope your kids don’t befriend 20% of the kids? 30, 40 or 50%

Do you even know where Quebec Terrace is located?

Yes just down the street from woodmore on university. Do you

It's 2+ miles down the street. But so what?

You sit around hoping your kid doesn't befriend poor kids? Jesus Christ. This thread is bringing out some of the real prizes in MoCo.

Get off your high horse. Would you let your teen hang out at Quebec terrace on a Friday night? Are there places you would? Then you acknowledge there is a difference and proximity to trouble breeds trouble. Some places are simply breeding grounds for crime.

Sure, why not?

No you wouldn’t unless your kids are part of the problem

Some Catholic families purposely move there to be close to the school. And why not? It's a cute neighborhood.

Similar situation with Jewish families in Kemp Mill area.

Orthodox Jewish families move to Kemp Mill because that's where most of the synagogues are and it's important to be within walking distance if you don't drive on Shabbos. The Torah School and Berman Academy are not in the neighborhood, just the boys' campus of the yeshiva (7-12).

FWIW, there are other areas that feed in to the exact same set of schools. A PP mentioned living in the MKES area (probably Franklin Knolls). We have a rising 2nd grader at MKES and have been generally happy.

A couple of other points from posts above:
- There is still a lottery program for the CES programs, though that’s being reevaluated.
- There is NOT a bussing requirement, plenty of kids get dropped off/picked up and there are several walkers, too.
- Feels like MKES is shaking off pandemic dust - a PP mentioned no field trips/cultural programs… that was the case during my kid’s K year, but in first grade, her class did two field trips (Butler’s and the county recycling center) and there was some cultural programming/spirit days, but it was fairly quiet.
- Noting that there’s a second aftercare option that kids can be bussed to from MKES (Karasik at MacDonald Knolls has had a bus option to/from MKES for two years now) in case that’s more convenient than the aftercare at PCES… There are several Woodmoor families at Karasik that have kids at MKES and younger kids still at Karasik, so they have the option to have both kids in once place via that bus route.
