Russia has been losing tanks and IFVs like crazy, to the point where they have had to dig out mothballed 1960s T-62 tanks to send to the front, which will be picked off even faster. Russia's only real advantages have been its relentless artillery, which has leveled town after town, and its use of cruise missiles against strategic inland targets. Ukraine needs artillery with longer range than Russian artillery, and it needs air defense that can intercept missiles.

Generally yes, but:

- the T-62s have been deployed to Crimea, not the front lines in Donbass.

This distinction is important because it shows Russia still has enough T72s (and fewer T80s and fewer still T90s. The T14 is a pipe dream) for frontline service.

It’s also important because it shows Putin believes the Ukrainians may now have manpower, weapons, and backing to attack and take back their land in Crimea.

The HIMARS artillery rocket system is crucial because it out-ranges Russian artillery (of which they have ample supply). It may turn out to be a “game changer” - IFF,

- the Ukrainians deploy it intelligently.

So far, Ukrainian strategy has been far more intelligent than their opponents.

Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan oil reverses are less then 6% of the world. Russia will have trouble going forward extracting the oil without western help. Russia has 24% of the natural gas reserves but that is hard to transport. Fertilizer is taken from the air and wheat production needs people, financial support and infrastructure to bring to market. So no the poster was not right on other things. The areas Russia capture are worthless because they destroy everything and there will be an ongoing partisan action which will spread to Russia itself.

China isn’t going to agree to remove Russia from the UNSC. And countries like KSA, UAE, India, Hungary and Turkey with antidemocratic regimes see advantages to a strategic alliance with even a substantially weakened Russia.

The murderous Saudi regime happily jumped into bed with the likes of Kushner and Mnuchin years ago. Biden wasn’t going to change that situation. As for Ukrainian oil, that’s negligible. Ukrainian grain is a far, far greater issue.

Russia cannot sustain an occupation of vast swaths of Ukraine in the short or long term. Putin’s armies are brittle and depleted. It’s suffered staggering losses in terms of troops (mostly conscripts) and military equipment. Over 31,000 KIA. Over a thousand tanks destroyed. Hundreds of aircraft. The Russians don’t have air superiority. Their Black Sea fleet continues to suffer losses. And there is now a more sustained flow of weapon systems to Ukraine (no thanks to the Germans). Much of the industrial base of Ukraine is destroyed as is the port city of Mariupol, which no longer has strategic value because the Russians can’t rebuild it.

The wat isn’t really winnable for either side. The question becomes how can some degree of a resolution be obtained given the scope of war crimes committed by the Putin regime and its reembrace of the gulag archipelago.
