God that's heartbreaking. I'm so sorry.

Missouri native here. Get ready for even more families being forced to place their children in situations like this when the state bans residents from seeking abortion outside the state.

I wouldn’t be so angry if the American Taliban that runs the place actually did ANYTHING that supported families.

Agree that the working class who make too much for benefits end up in the riskiest situations. If you were poor enough for head start type programs or vouchers at age 3, you would have at least been in a licensed facility

Some of these smaller rust belt and Midwestern cities are childcare deserts so that means even if you can afford it, you can’t find licensed daycares or a nanny. It isn’t even a question of waitlists, but rather a question of options not even existing or them being an hour away in a completely different part of the city.

Unlicensed daycares serve the gap of working people who make too much for public assistance but too little to afford fully pay licensed childcare.

The extremely poor either get childcare subsidies/vouchers (which have to be used at certain licensed facilities) or may also be at a point where it makes sense to not work and stay at home with the kids and collect welfare. But there's a huge gap between this group and the level that can afford to pay for licensed childcare facilities.
