Agree there should be cameras in both directions. Unfortunately there are still way too many crazy speeders. The other day my DS almost got run over by a commuter going 50+ in a 25mph zone while checking his phone.

A 12 year old was just critically injured by a driver on his way to school this morning in my neighborhood.

There's one of these BS cameras on Arizona as well. It only works in one direction, though. Why not both (not advocating for the camera, but it seems silly to only have 1 camera on a two-way street)?

I live near the Fessenden Street stop sign camera and enjoy sitting on my porch and guessing which cars will be getting tickets. The double flash tells me if I was right. People always complain about how many tickets these cameras issue, but I would say half the people who fail to make a proper stop aren't ticketed because they're going slow enough it doesn't trigger the camera.

Most people who DO make a complete stop and still get a ticket are the ones who come to a complete stop over the white stop line (most well into the pedestrian walkway). While that's plenty of room for a passing car to make it through the intersection safely, that's not enough for the pedestrian you didn't notice.

My advice if you don't want a ticket—approach stop signs slowly, make a complete stop before the "stop line", or avoid Fessenden. If this camera makes you do any or all over those, it's doing its job!

Hhahahah. I live in the neighborhood and blow through the stop sign all the time. The camera doesn't trigger unless you are over about 5 mph. I think they only bust 25 per day. That is almost NOTHING. Basically all the videos catch people going through at 10 mph+.

Even the most ardent supporter of this above agrees that it will catch people who do not perform a “complete stop”. They have even posted videos demonstrating this. So why are you lying? Seriously? What is the point and what do you think you are trying to accomplish? Do you believe that you are engaged in some sort of propaganda campaign or something? I just cannot understand what you think you’re doing.

DP. Why are you acting like coming to a complete stop (i.e. following the law) is too onerous for drivers to manage? Every person in those videos is breaking the law and a small fine is completely appropriate.

The issue is quite clear and has been well articulated by many people that they have configured these things with such tight tolerances that it is not sufficient to just stop. A “complete stop” seems to be a specific thing that requires stopping many feet in advance of the sign and resting for a minimum of four seconds before proceeding.

That sounds like … a complete stop. You are supposed to stop completely, in advance of the stop sign. “stopping” in the crosswalk ain’t it.
