It wasn’t suddenly last week. There have been emails for a few weeks now. For MS, it’s basically a play day, anyway.
They change the school year schedule the last month of school, really?
That’s poor form. Or else they assume no one’s busy or the staff can handle it.

More interesting to me is that she was tattled on by another parent...Sounds like a very nice community you have there.
I agree. We are at another top school and the parents most certainly created a foundation and/or social work and put it on their kids name. People do this all the time. The kids still did most of the work and did volunteer but the parents help set it up. What’s the big deal? It was so obvious to be as this was a few years ago but it would never ever ever occur to me to tattle on them. Omg.
I also didn't understand the issue. I don't think kids who are not of legal age can actually do any of that paperwork anyway so an adult would have to do it. If it was the child's idea and the child is doing a lot of work to organize and run it what is the problem? It's really disappointing to hear that some parents decided this was their business and made accusations when they really can't possibly know anything.
The fact that other parents (adults!) felt the need to put their nose in a student’s business (a minor) is unbelievable and tells a lot about how competitive the parents at GDS are with each other—using their kids as their measure they are judged on, I guess? Oy

NP here. in terms of the culture at gds, is is not very cut throat but the kids work hard. I heard about the same new parent who appears very cut throat but that is not the norm at gds. her kids r new to the school so maybe she thinks thats typical, but I can assure u it is not. and I did hear that the counselors know which kids are self starters and which are parent-driven and their letters of recommendation reflect that.

1. First day of school in September is the Wednesday after Labor Day. This year it was Thursday.
2. The Monday after Thanksgiving is no longer a day off.
3. The Tuesday after Spring Break is no longer a day off.
My guess is two of those (most likely 2 and 3) were previously full in-service days.
