Special education requires certain certifications. You cannot become a special education teacher with zero background.

Teaching while simultaneously learning how to be a teacher is HARD. MCPS will assign you a consulting teacher that has to evaluate you throughout the year and you have to meet with regularly. You will have certification coursework to complete. As a new teacher with zero experience it will take you longer to plan lessons, grade, etc. In total, it will consume most of your life. Knowing what to expect will hopefully help. Fingers crossed you get a position with a strong team of teachers - it makes a huge difference on helping you navigate the first year.
