No. The new regulations have to include money to invest in buying back the illegal weapons. There are places where this has been done successfully.
So how much to buy back a weapon? If someone is already in possession of "an illegal weapon" it's going to take a lot of money to get them to turn it over. What do you think that price will be?
Keep in mind that many of these people see these weapons as the means to defend their family. You're essentially asking them to put a price on their child's safety and possibly even their life.
How much money would it take for YOU to sacrifice your child's life?
I tell you what - the dynamic has flipped - there is NO limit to what I'll pay to make sure my kids are never in the situation those kids were. If the "law and order" brigade won't comply to a reinstated assault weapons ban they'll have to face much bigger consequences than whatever fear they are currently living in. I'd vote for making buy-back fair - price paid plus inflation to 2022. Value of buyback would decline over time.
"Price paid plus inflation" is not going to get the guns back. You said there is no limit to what you'd pay---there are parents who are gun owners that feel the same way.
Please don’t speak for all gun owners. I refuse to believe responsible gun owners would not agree that some reform s necessary. No automatic assault rifles. Background checks, training. We can agree on this.

How many rounds do you think you need in a clip to protect them? How many rounds did that kid in Texas have? If you’re NRA, you’d better get them to start making some concessions, because this mom here (and many others) are coming for them. To protect MY kids.
Lol, I'm not the NRA. I honestly have no idea how many rounds someone would need, and also have no idea how many rounds that kid in Texas had. I do wonder where an 18 year old part time fast food worker got the money for all of that. I also know that people who feel strongly about their right to own a weapon are not going to give it up for "purchase price plus inflation."
How will you and other moms "come for" these guns? Are you planning to break into the homes of people you think have them?

Lack of action after Sandy Hook is our national shame. This ten years later is our wake-up of our obligation to make it right.

Me, too. I’m not a political person, but I’m absolutely sick of this shit. This is the shame of our nation.
If we decline to be “political” then this is what we get.
