In fact, this entire site this past week has been full of angry insults and hateful rhetoric aimed at Republicans.
My first thought when I read some of the hate spewing on here is to wonder if the poster has children. And, if she/he does, I wonder if that poster speaks about other people in front of her children the way she writes about them on sites like this.
If so, you are part of the problem. Your children are watching and listening. They hear your hate and your insults toward others. They are learning from you that there are people who are not to be valued - simply because they disagree with you.
You are not teaching them kindness. You are not teaching them how to have a useful discussion with others. You are simply spewing hate. This is what they are learning from you.
Passing more laws may make you feel good, but it will NOT solve the problem. Hell, many of our current laws are not even enforced. I read over and over how gun crimes by felons are dismissed through a plea deal or because of "restorative justice."
We could ban guns tomorrow, and we will still likely have another school shooting unless we do something that actually makes a difference.
If you have been paying attention, you know that many, many things went wrong with this crime. From ignoring the red flags on the part of the shooter to the open door at the school, to the lack of a security guard present. And, that is just the start.
I don't know all the answers, but I do know that simply passing a law in the heat of a moment will not cause change. There are always going to be evil people who have no value for life. We need to get better at identifying these people, learn what causes them to be the way they are, and deal with them BEFORE they act on their evil. We also need to make schools more secure and learn from everything that went wrong here.

I truly want to know 1) Can you put yourself in the shoes of parents whose children have been murdered in school by legally purchased assault rifles? and 2) If even the horrifying nightmare of your own babies dying would lead to connect the dots
I am not a troll. I want to know what your reasoning behind putting gun supporters in office are.
Trump is the only thing that would get me to vote democratic for President. Voted against him twice. Yes can put myself in those shoes -- very vividly. Doing issues like red flag laws, gun shows, background checks would have my support. Strongly support a massive investment in mental health services and in school security. I also strongly believe in the right to defend yourself and own guns. I would like work on a wide number of measures but would not vote democratic in most elections because of this issue alone. The issue is important and should be front burner and dealt with but very unlikely to vote for a democrat.

If we really want to save lives, we can save more lives with less effort than by trying to reduce school shootings. Yes, school shootings are emotional events (and many people are bad at math), but that doesn't mean that passing reactionary legislation is the best way to save lives in the US.

Are these people being pushed out of bed? No. People have the option of installing a railing to keep them in bed if this is an important issue to them.
It’s not just school shootings. Guns need to be regulated.
Please be real. The chances of being in a school shooting are lower than dying from a car or bus crash to or from school. That does not mean ignore it. But please keep in perspective.

You are an idiot. I don't know what to say. Please go back to school, and I pray that you develop some critical thinking skills.
So here's the thing. I actually live in Mexico right now so I understand this dynamic probably better than anyone here. In fact I'll double down: gun control is definitely not the answer.

I am the OP. I am a Democrat. I want to force Republicans to imagine their toddlers shot in the face by an AR-15. And then I want Republican voters to say publicly that they'll still vote for the gun lobby.
They don't care. it's not the gun, it's the person holding the gun that's the problem.![]()
