The plan to start in Fall 23 never really made sense. Is it even possible to bid out for design and construction, review and get approvals, fully renovate a space, hire a principal and teachers, set the curricular programming (APs, Honors, regular classes etc.), identify various needs (e.g. Sp. Ed, accessibility needs of an unknown lottery population) all within 12 months? Actually, even less than that, since the 80-odd folks who get a lottery spot might want to learn a bit more about what their kids will be getting into. And this is even without a plan for starting sports and extracurricular programming.

It seems their approach to overcrowding will be to drive out all the families that have any other options. Any who stuck around after a year of closures, that is.

School children and schools should be part of their communities. I don’t think it makes sense to shuffle kids around too much. I get there are OOB seats for specific reasons and that’s fine.

Who's talking about the Lord & Taylor parcel? Not a great location, but it's on the metro and it's a big lot.

I hate all of this so much and am glad my kids are aging out - DCPS has wrung every drop it can out of me.

I mean the thing is Ward 3 does need more schools. There aren't any easy answers.
