I believe OP but, as a teacher, I can’t imagine putting in zeros in the gradebook unnecessarily - sounds like a good way to foster depression, anxiety and resentment in kids. You should definitely bring this to the attention of the administrators. - not to get the teacher in trouble, but to explain why it’s a psychologically harmful grading practice that should be abandoned.

Someone reading this thread does it. Or know a colleague that does it or could mention in a team meeting that it’s not a great idea. Or an admin reading this could send an email about the practice. I’m hopeful.

None of us have any idea what’s really going on in homes. But we can be mindful that incorrect grades can exacerbate bad situations for some kids. Not putting in false 0s, which does happen, is an easy way to help. Why not do it?

Teachers do care, but they will never care as much as you do. They are not our own children. I make lessons, teach, grade and other miscellaneous duties. That’s the job. 4pm comes and my “caring” converts to my own family.

It’s a blank if I add a new assignment and input nothing. It’s 50% if I type “mi” for missing.

These are some major generalizations. Most teachers? I’m going to challenge you on that. Most of us are passionate about our profession and do the best we can with severely limited resources. If I didn’t care, I wouldn’t be finishing my 6th hour of grading on a Saturday. Settle down and stop attacking the whole profession. It’s silly.

To get this thread back on track: I still don’t believe this is a widespread occurrence. I have literally NEVER had a colleague who does this. Our grade books are checked regularly by department chairs and admin, too.

Was IG Pro easier to use? I worked from 2000-2015, and all we used was IG Pro and that never happened.
