It's amazing that anti-maskers claim to be all about "personal freedom" yet they jump all over those who choose to wear masks even when it's voluntary. Such hypocrites.
What are you talking about? No one is "jumping all over those who choose to wear masks." Several posts above yours even specifically state "No. But if you want to, go ahead." and "I won’t. But I don’t care if you do. You do you"
Stop lying.
LOL ok. That's why there are posts in this thread saying that "NO!" and calling people who wear masks "paranoid."
Wearing masks without a scientific reason is evidence of paranoia. A healthy immune system needs to be exposed to a variety of viruses, the common cold, etc. To be masked is entirely appropriate when there is a pandemic and no vaccine available. We're past that stage and into a stage where vaccination is the solution. Masks are theater at this point. If you didn't wear a mask when your toddler's class had an outbreak of the common cold a couple of years ago, there's no rational reason you'd need to mask up against the current covid variants in circulation now.
Hello. The scientific reason is that they stem covid transmission. A new BA strain is on the rise, and not everyone manifests as a cold, even w/ vaccination. Also, some of us connect with more vulnerable people. KN95s are effective at preventing an infected person from spreading and someone from getting covid. Cloth masks are effective at preventing an infected person from spreading but not as effective to prevent the wearer from getting covid (esp omicron). Distance and air circulation help prevent spread as well. If our kid's graduation were inside, and we were all packed together, I would be wearing a mask. But, our graduation is outdoors, so I will bring my mask in case we are really close together in the bleachers, but, if not, won't wear one as I'll be outdoors.
