I think you can say “Sure, I’ll do XYZ task before the kids get up. I’m just resting for a second so I can be nice and fresh for when they wake up 😊! Hope you’re day is going well.” I bet they’ll let you be.
If they push back, talk to them. “I love watching Larlo and Larla. They are such special kids and so clever. I take my tasks seriously, and find that taking a breather while they nap ensures that I can be my best for them the moment that they wake up.” Then pause. See what they say. I bet they don’t push back. You sound wonderful and if you had to move on, I bet another family would snatch you up.

It’s ok to ignore their texts when you’re on break, and/or straight up tell them you’re on break for the next 60 minutes. If needed, strategically place something in front of a camera that’s in the room you want to relax in. Remind them your days are LONG and you’re legally entitled to a break. If it comes down to it, tell them you’re no longer able to work more than 8-10 hours so they need to find an afternoon nanny. Call them out on the micromanagement and ask them how they get their own job done.

It feels nice when I throw a pillow on the floor and can relax my back. Nannies need energy after the kids nap time.
In Maryland, centers, schools tell parents that is mandatory kids get 2 hours of nap daily. Kids always needs a time to rest too.

When the babies, toddler's or preschoolers nap I rest too. Even for 2 hours. I need energy when the kids wakes up.
Nannies don't stand the pain, if it's too much find a better job. I hope you can tell them your concerns and they change. If not find a better family.

Yes, yes they’re napping! I’m looking for a job right now, but this one pays 40 an hour, so I just need to ride it out until I can find something with the same pay. I’m in a HCOL city and the going rate is now $30-40hr, so I have hope! Thank you so much for just listening everyone. It means a lot!

Thank you so much. I have to tell you, that normally I love nanny cams, because I work so hard and I want the parents to see my work ethic. I’m always playing games, coming up with educational activities, using any opportunity (even just walking up the stairs) to practice counting steps, the alphabet, and colors. I do organizing around the house, cook fresh and healthy meals, and I’m always ‘on’ being mindful of what I say around the kids and how I speak to them. I plan crafts, sensory activities, and I’m basically just a walking one-man show preschool. For this reason, I love a nanny cam, because parents can see how good I am at my job and that I’m worth $40/hr. However, in order to be a good nanny, I need at least 20 to 30 minutes while the kids are napping just to have a break and this current family won’t give me that. So now instead of feeling recharged after nap, I’m counting down the hours until the day is done, and that’s not the kind of nanny I want to be. Never thought that I would need to add ‘ no micromanaging through the nanny cam‘ To my contract, but going forward, I guess that’s what I have to do.
I guess I was just posting this as a PSA, in case you have a great nanny, and don’t want to lose her. Everything about this job is perfect, the commute, the pay, and the children are so sweet and wonderful, but I just can’t stay.

I once accepted a night nanny position for a family with a 4mo that they needed help getting on better sleep routines and patterns (not even actual sleep training). When I got there, they had an otherwise empty room with the pack n play, a chair next to it, then a TV tray right in front of the chair with a camera on it. So they could watch me all night. I did the first night and then never went back.
I don't think nannies should be spied on but are you objecting to their having a baby monitor in the baby's room?
Not at all, it’s just the other 12 cameras around the house….
