NO!! Do not add if that’s ok. Just be direct and tell them you’re on break. Period. No asking, no wishy washy, no if that’s ok. “I’m on break.” Conversation over.Anonymous wrote:When they text you you need to say “ I just sat down, I’m going to take a few minutes to decompress before X wakes up if that’s ok”
Have you talked to the parents about this?Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:That sounds terrible, OP. Are the kids napping while you're in the bathroom? I think you should have a frank conversation with your boss about a lunch break and also just some down time when your charges are napping.
If they're not receptive, there are a lot of other families who won't monitor you so much!
Yes, yes they’re napping! I’m looking for a job right now, but this one pays 40 an hour, so I just need to ride it out until I can find something with the same pay. I’m in a HCOL city and the going rate is now $30-40hr, so I have hope! Thank you so much for just listening everyone. It means a lot!
$40/hr! Damn!
But yeah, get a new job. Not normal and sounds awful. So sorry OP.
Thank you so much. I have to tell you, that normally I love nanny cams, because I work so hard and I want the parents to see my work ethic. I’m always playing games, coming up with educational activities, using any opportunity (even just walking up the stairs) to practice counting steps, the alphabet, and colors. I do organizing around the house, cook fresh and healthy meals, and I’m always ‘on’ being mindful of what I say around the kids and how I speak to them. I plan crafts, sensory activities, and I’m basically just a walking one-man show preschool. For this reason, I love a nanny cam, because parents can see how good I am at my job and that I’m worth $40/hr. However, in order to be a good nanny, I need at least 20 to 30 minutes while the kids are napping just to have a break and this current family won’t give me that. So now instead of feeling recharged after nap, I’m counting down the hours until the day is done, and that’s not the kind of nanny I want to be. Never thought that I would need to add ‘ no micromanaging through the nanny cam‘ To my contract, but going forward, I guess that’s what I have to do.
I guess I was just posting this as a PSA, in case you have a great nanny, and don’t want to lose her. Everything about this job is perfect, the commute, the pay, and the children are so sweet and wonderful, but I just can’t stay.

I once accepted a night nanny position for a family with a 4mo that they needed help getting on better sleep routines and patterns (not even actual sleep training). When I got there, they had an otherwise empty room with the pack n play, a chair next to it, then a TV tray right in front of the chair with a camera on it. So they could watch me all night. I did the first night and then never went back.
I don't think nannies should be spied on but are you objecting to their having a baby monitor in the baby's room?
