Anyway. In case this is real. You should praise her entry into the state schools, stress how those are great options, and say, hey, if a waitlist works out, great, but otherwise, you are still on a great track.

With room and board, it is very much possible to need that many loans..

To highlight how random decisions are, she was outright rejected by: Scripps, Vassar, Middlebury, Colby, Wesleyan, Colgate, Carleton, and Barnard.

We are experiencing a mix of emotions, but mostly gratitude, at this amazing opportunity.

Amazing! Congratulations! I imagine need-awareness was a big factor for some of those rejections. But so fantastic it worked out.

The post makes total sense. Transfer admissions come out in May. Very few state schools meet full need, so most kids who attend state schools who are wealthy need to take out significant loans.

Also you should read the whole thread before posting!

After rejections at Emory and Northwestern, and waitlists at Haverford and Hamilton, she finally got in at Wellesley (with 80K+ in grant aid)! Mom, I, and she can't stop crying from gratitude.

$80K! This is amazing news. Congrats to your sister.

Per year? If so that’s basically a full ride, correct?
