the list specifically looks at magnet, too, but I'm thinking CAP is included in Blair.
In any case, your statement of the magnet inflating test scores is like saying the rich kids in Whitman are inflating their test scores.
Not really. The students you mention at Whitman are not part of a magnet program and so are not inflating test scores at their school.
The students who are at Blair and RM because of their magnet programs will have higher test scores, which raises the test scores for the school overall. Someone looking at the rankings might wrongly assume that the students in the schools' non-magnet programs are high as well.
It would be nice if US News provided separate numbers for the schools' non-magnet programs.
The kids who go to the school are part of the school. The rich kids at Whitman inflate the scores inasmuch as the magnet kids at Blair inflate the scores.
The Whitman students would be at Whitman regardless, unlike the magnet students at RM and Blair.
regardless of what? having money?
Meaning Whitman is the school the students are zoned for, so those students would be at Whitman regardless of any magnet program.

New to me at least was a ranking of MD magnet programs with Poolesville snagging the top spot with Blair’s program only taking 4th out of the regional programs, I wonder if the CAP program watered down Blair’s results?

newsflash: non magnet students at RM and Blair take AP classes and exams, too, and for RM, they can also take IB classes.
Also, in cluster RM students can join the IB diploma program in 11th grade, but not be in the magnet program, which starts in 9th grade.

Anonymous wrote:Even if wealth may influence the rankings in a way that might skew the quality of instruction that might be inferred, it would still nonetheless seem to be an accurate measure of overall environment of academic achievement, wouldn’t it? Yes it may reflect wealth that may allow tutors and other supplements, but doesn’t that reflect an overall higher readiness among students in those schools? And isn’t that an appropriate measure?

How did RMIB do?
