NESCAC schools have lots of spirit, tons of kids at games.

You are disappointed in people who are judgmental and ill-informed? Perhaps you place too high hopes on humanity.

At the NCAA tournament bb game against Michigan State, about 400 very boisterous Davidson students were in attendance -- impressive when Davidson only has about 1800 students on campus (w/another 100+ studying abroad) and the game took place in the midst of their Spring Break.

Funny you should write this as my DC (student at Davidson) drove with their roommate to the game in SC and then back to their spring break beach rental in NC immediately after that game that ended at about midnight. I was a nervous mom!

But, yes, there is a lot of spirit at Davidson. Last week my DC sent me video from an outside basketball game between the women's and men's basketball team(one team) against the stand-up comedy club members (the other team). It was really funny and reflective of their campus culture.

Fatigued driving is JUST as dangerous as drunk driving. People really need to change their attitude about these kinds of stories.

Still when we tell people where our child is going, they seem surprised it’s not somewhere “better”, either because they haven’t heard of it or because they don’t see the appeal of a SLAC.

And do you care more about what they think than whether your kid is happy with their choice?

Are you sure that you are not projecting your hidden fears onto them? I would be quite surprised if you know that many people who would be rude enough to act this way in reaction to where your kid is going to college.

Bear in mind that there are other key factors at these schools -- notably the presence / prevalence of the Greek thing.

Some don't have much and are very much anchored in sport as their spirit engine. Others -- Colgate comes to mind -- have huge Greek cultures and favor the athlete / frat / sorority person.
