Went about 5 weeks ago. Yelp is spotty. Check their Facebook page. Or just call them.

Seriously! They are regional specialties. Special to that region. It’s not supposed to be as good elsewhere. That’s what makes them special.

You are mostly wrong about this. But it definitely depends what restaurants in CA you go to.

Native Texan here, I like Mi Rancho in Silver Spring as well as Uncle Julio's for TexMex. Can't comment on California Mex as that's just a totally different sub-genre.

OP -- California Mexican food is not really that authentic. Some baja food is but the rest is American like most Chinese is American. Real Mexican is hard to find. El Paso chain in NoVa is quite good.

I'm not even from CA (from this area) and from having visited CA and the southwest can tell you there is no good Mexican food in this area.
