This makes me so angry. I feel like it should be it's own crime beyond just property theft. I could get over someone taking my engagement ring but I'd lose it if someone took my dogs, that's a whole different level of emotional trauma.

They questioned them and decided not to pursue charges. They stole a dog that has a value of at best a few hundred dollars so it's not considered a high crime. Remember pets are considered property under the law and once a dog isn't a puppy/already sold by the breeder their value normally goes down.

But they stole the dog at gunpoint, that should have counted against them even more. Maybe they traded intel on the contraband in their apartment leading to a bigger fish. (I watch too much tv)

Honestly shoving a gun in someone’s face during a robbery seems to not be a big deal anymore. Personally I’d like to see everyone who does it charged with attempted murder and intimidation but that’s not going to happen

I guess people need to kill someone in order to be criminally charged.

Federal prosecutors said Saturday that they did not pursue criminal charges filed by D.C. police against four men who were arrested at a residence where authorities found Pablo, a puppy that had been taken from his owner at gunpoint.
As a result, the men, ranging in age from 18 to 31, were released from detention on Friday, the same day police held a news conference saying they had raided an apartment Thursday night in Northeast Washington and found the dog, firearms and drugs.
The status of charges against three juveniles, males ages 14, 15 and 17 who were also arrested at the apartment, could not be determined. The D.C. Office of the Attorney General, which prosecutes juvenile offenders, did not respond to a request for comment.

All released, including the 15 year old who carried out 3 carjackings.

Nope. There are arrests and charges.

Charges were dropped.

No, you’re just having reading comprehension issues. The teens who are charged with carjacking are being prosecuted. The adults would be charged with lesser crimes, I guess receiving stolen property and gun charges or something like that, but it’s likely they don’t have enough evidence to go forward unless the teens make a deal and testify against them, which could still happen in the future.

It seems like a lot of people have a fantasy that we’re not “tough on crime” unless everyone who is arrested is thrown in jail immediately but this is America and that’s not how it works, thank goodness.

Love when someone is wrong but accuses others of “reading comprehension issues”. But you’re right, not pursuing charges for people caught with illegal drugs, guns, and accused of carjackings is totally being “tough on crime”.
