Lindsey Lohan’s mom wanted her in one, but her father fought her off. Unfortunately that didn’t happen in Britney’s case. Her entire family is POS.
Also, read the nytimes article about virtual strangers who are filing them against the elderly to steal their $$. It’s legal. Unethical, but legal.

Criminals often go after old people, so they can take their money - often times, those criminals are family - children who want what the parents have, to take it while the praent is still alive (so they don't have to fight other family/siblings for the estate).

Two things can be true. There is abuse of conservatorships and Brittney has mental health issues. There is years of legal documents and hospital records that are related to her. None of it is public. Who raised the boys?
Keven Federline, their father. He's kind of scummy looking and he has kids with several different women, but by all accounts he is a good, involved, loving, stable, capable father. It seems like when the boys were young her handlers and family and employees were really the ones in charge when she had them, which is good.
I'm at a place where 10% of this is fun gossip and 90% is concern and maybe sadness.
