+1 I am not inbound for Lafayette or Shepherd, but I really hope that they pull them out of Deal/J-R together and route to a Ward 4 middle/high school path. It would immediately create another viable neighborhood school and fix Ward 3 overcrowding. It has to be better to have everyone in the city fighting over two neighborhood high schools than over one!
Nobody cares what you think unless you have kids there, and you have no business opining on something that does not effect you. This is a fantasy that keeps getting thrown out there by the social justice warrior crowd on here, so please move on. Fixing ETOP high schools shouldn’t fall on the backs of Shephard Park/CC kids.
If you think creating a second desirable by-right high school in DC only effects the parents of the first kids to be rerouted there, you're very shortsighted. Also, it's *Shepherd Park.

J-R is about to undergo a huge admin change, the search for a new Principal, and the expected loss a number of teachers, a bit higher than normal but likely on average with post COVID turnover rates. The facility is in need of extensive repair and additional space which has been requested, primarily in temporary form, and downtown is generally unsupportive of needed improvements. That said there is likely more academic opportunity than at other DCPS schools and many self funded extra curriculars.
Thank you for this. So is it your sense that Principal Bargeman won’t be the pick for the permanent principal position?did he even apply? As a J/R parent, I have to say I’ve been very underwhelmed and have hope that he’s not the long-term solution.

Yes. I’m pretty sure Banneker has AP Calculus AB. Not 100% sure about AP Calculus BC.
If you have a STEM kid, Wilson might be a better option as they offer more science APs than Banneker. Wilson also offers Engineering + CS course and a strong Robotics team. Banneker does not have any of that.
Banneker offers AP Calculus AB, AP Statistics, AP Biology, and AP Environmental Science (and Robotics club and Electric car club). My sense is that Wilson is stronger in STEM though (by looking at AP scores).
