Try a Lego subscription service. We do not do any of them but my sister got it for her son for Christmas. I forgot which one they have but here is a magazine article rating some of the more well-known ones:

Seems like a lot of plastic. I wasn’t into having lots of legos, especially the tiny pieces. My girls were into the basic blocks for a while but never got into sets. I’m grateful.

I also wouldn’t spend $300 even if my kid played daily. That’s just a lot. Ask him to pick out a $100 set instead

My son is 11 too and he still loves playing with his toys, crafting, growing plants, imaginative play and so on. And yes he still plays with lego, though not as much as he used to. He'll build a model, deconstruct it and then it'll stay in his closet for a few months before it's revisited again. If your son still enjoys it I say get it him.

I know where you are coming from, OP - I have a giant plastic bin full of legos that don’t get played/built with, probably at least $1,500 spent (do people realize how expensive lego sets are?)… It kinda stresses me out to see that bin…

That said, I’d probably buy my kid another lego set if she specifically asked for her birthday; I think it’s good for her and I can think of worse things to spend money on…

OP, I get where you’re coming from! My son asks for legos but just doesn’t play with them the way I did as a kid (hours on end), and it feels like a waste to get a set to build once. I am not saying don’t do it … but you are absolutely not awful, as others have said. I get it!

Normally, I wouldn't say "you sound awful," but this OP really does.

OP should get the birthday gift that the son wants, assuming OP has the funds (which I think is true).

My DH loves doing Lego sets as a way to relax. You are never "too old" for Lego!
