Plenty of people need to see family in other countries. International travel is a hassle. Now, an additional hassle is exposure to as few humans as possible for as long as possible before the trip. It sucks, but it's reality for the time being.
There’s no way to do that with kids in school.

That is two data points one day apart.
DC cases have more than doubled in two weeks. MoCo not far behind. NYT reports cases up significantly in NYC and DC.
