We live together but she doesn't make a lot, so I just pay most of the time. She seemed ashamed of the money issues and I am trying to help her but she also has bad habits that needs work. Cigarettes and weed is out of hand for example, plus she does suffer from OCD, the laundry is always running and etc


OP look into enabling. If your GF doesn't have the money to cover her own basic necessities, but still spends on weed/cigs/alcohol ... you are enabling her, not helping her.

Menstrual cups-- buy two, which last several years
Cup wash--lasts 3 months or more
Body wash-- lasts 4-6 weeks
Shampoo-- lasts 4 weeks
Conditioner- lasts 2-3 weeks
Shaving gel--lasts about a month
Face wash-- lasts 4-6 weeks
Facial moisturizer and serums-- last 2 months
Body lotion-- lasts 2 months
Baby wipes-- one pack lasts 8+ weeks. I use these to clean up makeup mistakes
Deodorant-- lasts 3-4 weeks

Your girlfriend does not get her period every two weeks. That was your worst tell.


She could if she has gyn issues. I experienced that.


If she has actual medical issues leading to her getting her period every two weeks and OP wants to break up over buying her tampons, then he really is an asshole.


He has about 5 BIG reasons to break up with her.

If he was my bud he’d already be gone. He is going down big time if he stays, especially if she tethers a child with him for decades to come.

Do you think she may be over-using the products because of her OCD? Like is she washing herself multiple times a day?

Buying all that stuff twice a month is beyond just being wasteful. My kids are wasteful and a bottle of wash still lasts us a few weeks. The only explanations is she’s OCD and washing herself over and over, or she’s returning them for cash to buy cigarettes and weed.

Either way the smoking alone would make me break up with someone, that’s so gross. I made my H quit weed before I’d move in with him.

What’s her job track btw. Is she a student or working towards some credential or is she topped out with her low income/career? Not impressive if you can’t buy your own Suave shampoo.

She’s OCD and washing herself multiple times a day.

It’s not weird for women to spend $200/month on beauty products. We use au pairs for childcare, and about half of them spend that much. The thing is, it’s mostly perfumes and makeup. What’s weird is to spend so much on what’s basically multiple variations of soap.
