DC loved Richmond and Bucknell. WL at both. In at Gettysburg with significant merit aid. Graduated in 2020. Best choice ever made
Gettysburg is great choice for biology and health sciences.

Bucknell's acceptance rate is slightly higher than Richmond, and has slightly lower average SATs. Also, compared to other SLAC's they are not more selective for girls. Nor is Lehigh. So if OP's DD is competitive for UofR, but not certain, they are good alternatives. OP didn't ask for safeties.


Bucknell accept rate is mid-to-high teens just like Richmond. It’s almost identical admissions-wise unless you are applying to Bucknell’s engineering school which is low-teens. Kids who don’t get into Richmond don’t get in to Bucknell. They are listed and ranked together in most writings.

Exactly!!. Great school for sure but acceptance rate in mid 30’s not mid-teens

I love Fordham!

But Richmond makes me think of Elon.



My kid with a 4.0, heavy extra curricular, 6 A.P. and the rest honors, Catholic HS, was rejected from Fordham, family alum. It is not a safety school.

Nothing at all like Richmond. Dennison and Furman are the best suggestions so far. Suburban LACs that aren't too tiny, although Dennison's acceptance rate has gotten almost as low as Richmond's. Maybe Rollins in FL.

Reed is true SLAC (1500 students). Richmond is more like 3500 students, so almost 2.5x as big.


PNW native here with a take on Oregon and Washington SLACs. Reed has a rep for being full of oddball eccentrics. Smart, but strange, students. Whitman is in Walla Walla, Washington. It is a long drive from Portland or Seattle to get there. I know some people who went there and liked it. A few more PNW SLACs you might take a look at are Lewis and Clark in Portland and Willamette University in Salem. Willamette (rhymes with damn it) is a SLAC located across the street from the Oregon state capitol building. Good poli sci department, has a well-regarded law school. 1600 undergrads, 400 graduate students. There are also UPS and PLU in Washington state.
